SCIPHER — Scintillation and Cherenkov-based Identification of Particles and High-entropy Encryption-key Research

Researcher — SCIPHER

Team AnuQuest, Oberoi International School · CERN Beamline for Schools 2026

SCIPHER (Scintillation and Cherenkov-based Identification of Particles and High-entropy Encryption-key Research) is a research proposal for a particle detector shortlisted amongst the Top 50 proposals at the CERN Beamline for Schools Competition 2026. It proposes an experiment with two scientific objectives: first, to identify four particle species — protons (p), electrons (e⁻), muons (µ⁻), and kaons (K⁺) — using a compact multilayer scintillation–Cherenkov detector combined with machine-learning classification; second, to exploit the irreducible quantum stochasticity present in every particle–matter interaction to generate cryptographically strong true random numbers, with direct application to cyber-security.
